This post is pretty exciting…delicious food & something new!
To begin, my sister and I experimented with making homemade Lara Bars for the first time today. We made a replica of the Cherry Pie flavor–one of my favorites! It came out awesome…SO easy to make!
We made them into bars…
And other cool shapes…
To make about 6 of the bar type Lara Bars you will need:
-1 1/2 cups Dates (buy them whole and roughly chop them)
-1 1/2 cups dried cherries
-2 cups Almonds
-around 1/4 tsp of Cinnamon
Directions:
1)Place the dates and cherries in a food processor and pulse until pureed into a paste.
2)Take the fruit paste out and set to the side in a bowl.
3)Add the almonds to the food processor and process until finely chopped.
4)Add the almonds and cinnamon to the bowl with the fruit paste.
5)Using your hands, play with the paste and almonds until all of it is incorporated!
6)Shape them however you would like and wrap in plastic wrap. Store them in the refrigerator.
Try making your own Lara Bars…it will save you some money and give you a nice healthy snack!
Today was also very exciting because I got NEW RUNNING SHOES! I actually bought these on a whim, because I really don’t NEEEEEEEEED new shoes quite yet. I still plan to switch between my old shoes and new shoes. For the past few years, I have been running in Brooks Adrenaline.
The reason I started to wear Brooks was because I put my name in a raffle at Fleet Feet Running Store and won 3 pairs of Brooks sneaks! I have nothing against the Adrenalines, I actually love them, but today I wanted to be fitted with an open mind for another shoe. I went back to Fleet Feet to get fitted.
The man in the store showed me a pair of Saucony’s & New Balances. He said that my foot is wide and the Adrenaline’s actually were not wide enough to give my foot full support. After hearing that, I decided that I would definitely try a different shoe! It was a hard choice, but I went with the Saucony Hurricane 11.
I don’t know…I’m REALLY hesitant about these. I have to make myself more open for changes, but they feel VERY spacious in the toe area. AHH…I’m hoping I like them. If not, he said I could bring them back within 2 weeks, which is pretty sweet. I plan to test them out tomorrow morning when I get back into the swing of running since taking a few days off. New shoes are always exciting.
Sorry for the LONG post, but I promise, I’m almost done.
I’m lucky my Uncle Art likes to fish. I’m even luckier that he is a GREAT fisherman. Tonight’s dinner was FRESH FLOUNDER. You can’t beat it.
I baked it in the oven with some Olive Oil and a new Mediterranean Seafood Seasoning I bought today at Whole Foods.
Yum. This was a very tasty seasoning!!!
Right out of the oven…
We served it with broccoli, some brussel spouts we had to use up, and corn on the cob!
And here was my plate…
…and of course, I went back for more!! 🙂
See you all tomorrow! I hope I like my shoes!!!!
What shoes do you run in??
i was fitted for the saucony hurricanes as well…i really liked the arch lock technology, it was really secure, but the toe box was wayyyyy too wide for my really narrow feet. my feet were swimming, so i switched to the adrenalines, in a narrow of course…basically did opposite of you haha
i run in hurricanes, too! i am obsessed with them. they are the most comfortable shoe i have ever run in, by far. what’s funny is that my feet are quite narrow, but for some reason the wide toe box doesn’t bother me. i haven’t tried the 11s yet and probably won’t for a while–i just ordered another pair of the 10s online because they were 50% off!
Nice LaraBars! Dates, cherries, and almonds. Sounds yummy! I’ll have to put that on my to do list along with the green monster. Everyone is talking about it!
I also got a new pair of shoes the other day. I need them. It seems like I just bought my last pair of shoes, though. I’m trying them out tomorrow. I’m excited! Good luck with the new shoes. And your sister said the guy at the shoe store was cute. Always a great excuse to go back if things don’t work out! Haha.
I’ve tried different shoes, but I’ve always gone back to Brooks. I’ve worn them for so long that others just feel weird. I’ve worn both the glycerines and the adrenelines. I guess sometime I pronate and sometimes I don’t.
I usually wear New Balances, but picked up a pair of Nike Air Pegasus last weekend – I really like them, but I can;t say I’m used to them just yet.
